Paid Surveys Are Sometimes Better Than Advertised
August 2, 2007 |
I’ve done the math on GPT (Get Paid To) sites — get paid to read e-mails, get paid to take surveys, etc. — and if you do everything they send you, you’re probably only going to net about $8 an hour (but you can improve that).
Now, that beats the heck out of a minimum-wage job in a cubicle or a fast-food restaurant, and it doesn’t cost you a dime to participate and get started. Also, a lot of the work takes place a few seconds or a few minutes at a time. So if you’re home-bound and have a lot of distractions, it still works for you, whereas a traditional job and even a lot of work-at-home opportunities might not.
The secret, though, to making better money at these things is knowing how to watch for the better payout opportunities and taking advantage of them.
For example, I got the following e-mail today from Inbox Dollars, one of the few such sites I strongly recommend:
Hmm… $1 for a 15-minute survey = $4 an hour. Forget it, right?
Being insatiably curious as I am, I decided to see just how fast I could do that 15-minute survey. Total time, start to finish: 5 minutes.
$1 for 5 minutes… now that’s $12 an hour… quite a bit better.
That’s still not going to make you rich, but it’s better than many entry-level jobs and basically requires no skills. But keep reading…
When you join Inbox Dollars, they give you a $5 credit in your account just for joining. Joining takes maybe 2 minutes. $5 for 2 minutes = $150 an hour!
Now of course you can’t do that all day… not even for an entire hour. But when you watch for the bigger payouts on these systems, and you do it on multiple systems, it can definitely add up.
And how can you make even more money? Referrals. With Inbox Dollars, every friend you refer can potentially earn you $5. And how long does it take to refer someone… what, a minute? That’s potentially $300 an hour!
Of course, there’s a catch… that would be too easy, right?
The catch is that you only get paid when those people you refer get their first check. And they have to earn $30 in order to get a check. This typically takes a couple of months, even if they’re active, so you probably won’t be seeing the money very soon.
But money is money… if even a fraction of the people you invite get to the point of earning $30, you can set up some very nice income for a few months down the road. Oh, and you also receive a percentage of the money they earn for reading paid e-mails, so it creates a residual income as well. And that’s what it’s all about.
Disclosure: The links in this post to Inbox Dollars are affiliate links. However, as described above, I only make money when you make money. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you do that.
